Birdwatching and Nature Photography

With the varying vegetation around the lake’s shore line, and the distinct forest and grassland, the area is rich with bird life. There is a constant back ground of bird songs or frogs.

On the lake you’ll find the beautiful vivid white and black Common Loon, and you tell us which species of ducks you see during your visit.

Osprey, and Belted King Fisher feast on the bountiful fish, while raptors such as Bald Headed Eagle, Red Tail Hawk and Peregrine Falcon show off their beautifully spotted and banded underbellies, and all can be seen hunting.

Many Kestrel’s (also called Sparrowhawks) can be seen feeding on dragon flies.

There are a large variety of tree-clinging birds, such as flickers and woodpeckers, including the large red-crested and moustached Pileated Woodpecker.

There is perching birds of all colors and sizes, like the beautiful dark blue and black Steller’s Jay, the decorative Black-Capped Chickadee, swallows, sparrows, and the strikingly marked Black-billed Magpie (which are quite shy of humans when found in the wilds such as here at Pinantan Lake Resort).

These are just some of the many bird life to be found in the area. We’ve named enough to tantalize the birdwatcher in you, but also leave open some wonderful surprises for your visit.

The water birds share the lake with resident beaver and muskrat, and the surrounding area is home to deer, moose, bear and a coyote choral group.
